About Us

Forestry that works with the land, not against it.

Boots on the Ground Forest Services is a small, owner-operated forestry crew based on Washington's Olympic Peninsula. We work with foresters and landowners in Clallam and Jefferson Counties — typically parcels of 40 acres or more — doing the hands-on forest management work that keeps land productive, healthy, and resilient.

We're not a consulting-only outfit. We plan the work and we do the work — from timber harvest design and permitting through felling, yarding, and log marketing. Same crew, start to finish. That continuity means fewer surprises, better communication, and a final result that matches what we laid out together.

Low-impact by default

"Low-impact" isn't a marketing label for us — it's how the work gets done. We run a Deutz-Fahr tractor with a Tajfun winch instead of heavy equipment that tears up the ground. We thin selectively rather than clear-cutting. We match our approach to the terrain, the species mix, and the landowner's goals, whether that's revenue from timber, fire risk reduction, or just healthier trees.

Credentials that matter

Hannah Jones holds a Certified Master Logger credential from the Washington Contract Loggers Association — the industry's benchmark for safe, responsible logging practices. She's also a Washington State Licensed Herbicide Applicator, which means we handle invasive species management in-house without subcontracting. Vince Reichheld brings a forestry degree and handles management planning, harvest layout, and timber marketing.

We're listed in the WSU Extension Forestry Consultant Directory — an independent, university-maintained resource for landowners.
